Clochemerle
Perched on a hill in the middle of the vineyards, 50 kilometres from Lyon, the village of Vaux-en-Beaujolais awaits you for an oenological stopover with literary accents. In 1937, the village of Vaux-en-Beaujolais was the source of inspiration for the writer Gabriel Chevallier to write his novel "Clochemerle", which was then published in an illustrated edition by Albert Dubout and translated into 26 languages! This satirical comedy has since completely permeated the village: the protagonists : Ernest Tafardel, Baroness Alphonsine de Courtebiche, the priest Ponosse and the notary Girodot invite you on a family walk through the village where the Pissotiere, the central character of Gabriel Chevallier's novel, has a special place! From the centre of the village, follow the silhouettes that will lead you to the top of the Montée au Bal de la Saint-Roch to offer you a unique 360° panorama of the vineyards on the hillsides of the Beaujolais-Villages appellation! On the way down, a stop at the winegrower's or the Cave de Clochemerle is a must, to enjoy a glass of Beaujolais and share a warm moment. Vaux-en-Beaujolais or Clochemerle is thus an essential stop on the Beaujolais Wine Route!
