Mont Saint Rigaud
Perched in the north of the Beaujolais, 50 minutes from Lyon, is the Mont Saint-Rigaud.
Located in the heart of the green Beaujolais, the site is an essential nature stopover. The highest point in the Rhône department (1009m) is at Monsols in the Ajoux woods. In the Middle Ages, a Cluniac priory was located here. Put down your vehicles and set off for the Adventure! Access to the summit of the Mont is on foot, or by bike for those who are not afraid of hills! The walk, which is easy, starts through the Douglas of the Beaujolais. The first stage halfway up is the Saint-Rigaud spring, which is still flowing! Legend has it that its water is sacred and that it has healing properties. Then climb up to the observation tower made of Douglas fir, which offers a 360° panorama of the Beaujolais and Lyonnais mountains, the Azergues Valley, the Clunisois, the Charolais, the Mâconnais and the Alps. Photographer friends? Mont Saint-Rigaud is one of the most beautiful spots in the Beaujolais to capture the sunset over the Beaujolais Mountains!
