The quarries of Glay Saint Germain Nuelles
The Carrières de Glay site, a short distance from the Beaujolais wine route and 30 minutes from Lyon, is classified as a sensitive natural area in the Rhône.
This geological site in the Beaujolais, a UNESCO World Geopark, offers visitors an imposing face revealing the specificity of these rocks of sedimentary origin: the ochre limestone of the golden stones. The stratification phenomenon, visible to the naked eye, raises questions about the geology of the entire Beaujolais region. These old quarries, which were used for the construction of traditional buildings throughout the southern Beaujolais, and which are now disused, can be visited freely all year round, but you can also go for a walk along a footpath which takes you around the site. Picnic lovers will find plenty to do on this amazing site.
